James Taylor - Live
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (February, 1994)
Author: James Taylor
Average review score:

A must have for Guitar Players and James Taylor fans.
As a longtime James Taylor fan, this book was exactly what I had been looking for. It is the companion to JT's LIVE album of a couple of years ago. It contains complete sheet music as well as guitar chord blocks for those of us that don't read music. The songs covered in the book are a very good cross section of JT's hits. They are ( in order )

Sweet Baby James Traffic Jam Handy Man Your Smiling Face Secret O' Life Shed a little light Everybody has the blues Steamroller Blues Mexico Millworker Country Road Fire And Rain Shower the People How Sweet it is New Hymn Walking Man Riding on a Railroad Something in the way she moves Sun on the moon Up on the roof Don't let me be lonely tonight She thinks I still care Copperline Slap Leather Only One You make it easy Carolina in my Mind I will Follow You've got a friend That Lonesome Road

Along with all the great sheet music, there are several pages of pictures from the live tour. As you can guess, I highly recommend this book.

Jars of Clay: If I Left the Zoo - Guitar Tablature
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (May, 2000)
Author: Jars of Clay
Average review score:

An opportunity to learn
I first heard the band known as Jars of Clay back in college, the style of how their cords were played facinated me. So I decided to ask around and a number of people gave their own opinions on how it was done. Then I came across this book, a sign that I will soon get my story straight. This is one piece of material that I would definetly recommend.

Jazz, Rock, and Rebels: Cold War Politics and American Culture in a Divided Germany (Studies on the History of Society and Culture, 35)
Published in Paperback by University of California Press (March, 2000)
Author: Uta G. Poiger
Average review score:

Rethinking Cultural Imperialism
This book is an innovative study of the impact of American culture on both East and West Germany in the 1950s and early 60s. It is highly readable and always interesting, tracing the cultural and political impact of jazz, rock-n-roll, and American "rebel" movies like the Wild One or Rebel Without a Cause. The book looks at the reactions of state officials and experts, who vacillated between decrying the American imports as imperial "un-culture" and trying to appropriate them as resources for the cold war conflict between East and West. Perhaps more importantly, it also examines the reactions of the young fans, who used these American cultural products to stage their own rebellions against state authority and official norms. Always attentive to issues of race and gender, subtle and yet clear, this is a great analysis that goes well beyond the usual terms of the debate about cultural imperialism.

Joe Satriani Dreaming, Number 11
Published in Paperback by Cherry Lane Music (August, 1989)
Author: Joe Satriani
Average review score:

A great transcription of Satch's first live album.
This book cover the Dreaming number 11 EP that included three live songs (Ice 9, Hordes of Locusts and Memories) and one new song called The Crush of Love.

The transcriptions are quite good (especially Memories which has a _lot_ of special improvised lines in it). Even if you don't want to learn the songs you will pick up scads of cool legato lines from Memories. Ice 9 is a great example of how Satch blends rhythm and lead work when playing as a three piece band. Well worth the price!

John Lennon : one day at a time : a personal biography of the seventies
Published in Unknown Binding by Grove Press ()
Author: Anthony Fawcett
Average review score:

John Lennon 101
Musicians, writers, artists and fans alike should read this candid biopic into the lives of John & Yoko during the prime of their lives and populariy. They were involved. They were controversial. They were naive. They were important and outspoken... and most of all, vulnerable. Anthony Fawcett was more than sympathetic... he was privileged to find himself involved at a time when the magic of John Lennon transcended who he even thought he was. Forever dispells the silly myth that Yoko, Linda or anything other than John's decision broke up the Beatles.
